#IWSG – Stay Positive

Posted on

It’s the first Wednesday of November (almost the end of the year already!) and it’s time for Alex J. Cavanaugh’s Insecure Writer’s Support Group.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Today I’m feeling particularly thankful and blessed so instead of talking about what I’m insecure about I’d like to offer some encouragement to my fellow writers. I’ll start by sharing one of my favorite quotes. It’s on a framed poster that hangs on the wall at my job. I pass it everyday and feel like it’s talking directly to me:

No one can determine the heights to which you can soar. And even you won’t know until you spread your wings.

Want to write that novel but afraid? Do it anyway.

Sitting on a perfectly good novel because you’re afraid to publish it? Do it anyway.

Instead of imagining the worst that could happen, think of the opposite: what if, by confronting your fears, something truly amazing happens? Like all of your dreams coming true? Stay positive, stay focused, and don’t let fear keep you from pursuing your dreams.

You can find a list of other IWSG participants here.

  1. Wow, this post definitely inspired me! Imagine what good letting go of those fears and doubts can do to us! Too much negative thinking can really hinder us from fulfilling our dreams. 🙂

  2. I love this, Quanie. You absolutely know how to make someone’s day! I have my ups and downs within my own self-appreciation and acknowledgements; especially since I brand myself in two completely different directions with my writing. But like you said, there are no limitations for us when we truly wish to make our dreams come true. I always like to think about Bon Jovi whenever I get down hard on myself. It took them years before they made it. We all have our beginnings, but it’s the ventures and roads which lead us to our goals and ultimately, our happiness and success. I know one thing is for sure; I’m happy when I write so I must be doing something right! Thanks for giving us some wonderful encouragement today=)
